World-renowned geological consultant with over 45 years experience in the oil industry as an exploration geologist, 34 of them with Shell in New Zealand, Canada, Nepal, Middle East and NW Europe.

Specialist with unparalleled depth in the study of North Sea geology and desert sediments as an analogue to ancient reservoir sequences (e.g. Rotliegend).

Publication track record par excellence with five major books, over 60 authored papers and numerous book reviews and conference reports. Major author of oil industry publications including Desert Sedimentary Environments, Quaternary Deserts and Climatic Change, Geology of the Oman Mountains, Petroleum Geology of NW Europe, Petroleum Geology of the North Sea and NW Europe's Hydrocarbon Industry.

Currently lectures on North Sea Geology to MSc students in petroleum geology at Aberdeen University and on petroleum geology for MSc students in Drilling Engineering at the Robert Gordon University, Aberdeen. Supervises the fieldwork of PhD students in the Emirates, Oman and Saudi Arabia. Conducts training courses in petroleum geology for oil industry geologists and engineers in UK.

Recipient of honours and awards from the Geological Society of London, PESGB, the Geological & Mining Society of the Netherlands, Geological Society of Edinburgh , EAGE, and Society of Explorationists in the Emirates.
